Assignment # 1

What did you notice or learn about Africa while doing the CD Rom activity called "Africa Inspirer?" In one or two sentences, write down your thoughts or observations.

Next, write a comment on someone else's reflection (it can be someone in your blog or anyone else in this Africa Blog section). You might need to wait until other people have written their comments to do this part.

Try this activity. If for some reason it doesn't work, then send me an email and we'll make it work tomorrow.

I think the game is great because you can learn different countries and what they are good at

I think that the game is interesting because you can compete with other groups to see who gets a higher score.

I find the game quite interesting because you are trying to get the highest score, and while doing that you learn some Africa country names.

African Inspirer really helped me a lot with the locations of the countries in Africa. First I thought it would be boring but actually i find it quiet interesting and fun. I hope next time if we have time we can play that game again.

I think the game is intersting as it teacches what countries have. Seeing how many nateral resoucews they have you start thinking why don't they keep more of this for them sevles I think theta what some of the richer countries have started to do.

I agree with lawrence it's fun to compete.

While playing African Infpirer, I noticed that a lot of countries in Africa are extremely small while others like Sudan are really big. I enjoy how the game allows students to think and learn how to plan everything we do before we start. It also allows us to see how much we improved in our planning after each round.

Wei-Shi said...

Responding to Bryan's comment: I also think that this game would really help a student learn what each country's name is and what kinds of resources they have and how much. This game is actually very educational.

Marina said...

This game taught me the African country names and what they produce when I was having fun =) I thought this game was really exciting, and I would love to play it again ;)

Responding to Wei-Shi's Comment: Indeed, this game does make students plan before taking action. Without planning, all of us would've gotten a lower score in the game.

African Inspirer helps me learn where the different countries are in Africa and what they specialize in producing. Its alot funner than doing worksheets or reading textbooks.

Wei-shi: The game does help us plan and think ahead, which is another thing that this game teaches us to do.

I learned where in Africa there are stuff like cacao, gold and stuff. I also think the game is interesting with the bonus questions and stuff. I think i did this last year not sure in Mr. j's class but i had no clue what it was. Besides that i think the game helps us learn the African countries and learn what they are famous for and things like that. Also i think it is a suitable game for this unit we are doing and a educational game.

lin said...

I learned a few country names in Africa throughout the game (the ones i passed by a lot.) I learned some products from africa (coffee, gold, cotton, etc.) and i thought playing the game was a really easy way to learn those things.

lin said...

i agree with lawrence. i think competition makes the game more intresting to a lot of people. It makes people want to play the game more and that helps them learn.

I think that the game is good since you need to think to make a good plan and also it teaches you what country produces what kind of resources

Loren W. said...

Reply to Lawrence:
I also think that competition makes the game more fun to play than when you play by yourself

Anonymous said...

One thing I knoticed about the game is that the last place you move to is the next place you start out with. (well, atleast in Kasey's and mine)

Anonymous said...

i disagree with loren w. since i dn't know if the resources are really there.

Anonymous said...

I think that Marina had a point about how you learn the names of Africa when you play. The current name I recall is "Tunisia". It reminds me of tuna fishia. Haha...:)

Evan C. said...

My opinion in this game is high, as you can learn more about what countries there are in africa. I also like this game because you have to plan before you take action, or else u will result in a lower score

Evan C. said...

Lawrence is right. One of the reasons why this game is so interesting is because you can compete with others for a better score.

clement said...

i think that this game was kind of boring but a great time killer for spare time.

After playing the game, I learned the location and name of a few countries in Africa, which is helpful. I also learned that some certain countries have mass production of a certain item.

mika said...

I agree with Sunny, African Inspirer is very useful.

Alice said...

Same as everyone else, I think that the Africa Inspiration Game is a very good way to start memorizing the countries in Africa and also figure out some shortcuts from a country to another. This game made me notice some tiny countries that I never knew were there and also, this taught me some interesting facts about the countries. However, I think that the most important thing that I learned by playing this game was to always read the directions first.

Alice said...

I agree with Mika that it is a really fun way to learn about Africa.

Gregory said...

I think that this game is really unique because it's fun and educational.

Anonymous said...

I think the game is fun since you can compete with other groups, but it is also educational. You can learn a lot about the countries in Africa and how they provide supplies and resources for the rest of the world.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Wei-shi. Planning is very important. When you plan, you can avoid mistakes.

Gregory said...

I agree with Evan. You really have to plan well or else you'll end up with a very low score.

jennifer said...

African Inspirer helped me learn a lot of different countries in Africa, names and locations. When I played that game, it was actually pretty interesting. I liked the way we had to try to find as many places of the resources we had to find; and plan before that. It's fun to compete against your classmates and see who gets the highest scores.

Bryan said...

I think Clement is right. It is a great time killer. WE DO NOT HAVE TO DO THE ERB

jennifer said...

I agree with Alice that we should always read the directions first. I thought that the higher the number of the resource, the higher scores we'll get. but it turned out the opposite way. That was when my partner and I realized why our scores were so low.

Anonymous said...

i think it helps you see visually what the country is like, and you will be able to understand it more... and you compete! : )

phoebe t. said...

phoebe t. said...

i agree with vickie too because i thought at first the game was going to be boring, but it turned out to be fun

I think the game was very enjoyable since we were able to make our own decisions by choosing where we decided to go next in the game. At the same time, it was also educational since we could learn about different resources in each country and the names of each country in Africa.

I agree with Vickie because playing this game was able to teach me many interesting facts about Africa that I didn't know before.
